Who We Are
&
What we do
SunCross Pictures is an independent film/video production company based in Alberta, Canada.
At SunCross Pictures, we champion and accelerate the production of feature length Narrative and Experimental films with an emphasis on heavily stylized Art Cinema. We aim to create allegories of psychological, philosophical, theological , and ethnographic experiences through our works. By empowering racialized and immigrant filmmakers and their stories, we ground and explore themes of loss, hardship, love, and the human experience.
We are currently in Development for our first feature length narrative film, an Armenian folk horror film, set to shoot in late 2025. Other projects in development include a dark comedy feature film, a narrative series pilot, and multiple short films on our current production slate.
Owner / Exec Director
My name is Hrachya Tokmajyan, I am an Armenian Canadian Writer and Director who tells stories of interpersonal and sociocultural struggle through the language of folktales and mythology. I believe that folktales and mythology have had and will continue to have a hand in shaping the future of humanity, our values of morality, relationships, and our collective subconscious. I take inspiration from soviet era arthouse films and contemporary elevated folk horror to craft stories that represent Armenian myths and folktales close to my heart.
I have written, directed, and produced multiple folktale like short films in the past, I am in development of my first feature length film, an Armenian Folk Horror project set to shoot in fall of 2025. My projects have been greenlit by granting programs like Calgary Arts Development & Alberta Foundation for the Arts and showcased in development labs like the 2024 Alberta Producer Accelerator Program (APA) and the 2024 Whistler Film Festival's Producer's Lab.
